Notes from the Future

Notes from the Future is an international group exhibition of members of the Royal Society of Sculptors. There are no restrictions on medium and subject matter, with premise of the exhibition centred around the idea that each artwork must arrive to ROSL either by post or digitally. As an exhibition of entirely mailable artworks, Notes from the Future is an ambitious and inventive play on traditional exhibition-making, that seeks to subvert the difficulties of international programming and strengthen cultural relationships across borders.

“The big positive outcome from the pandemic for the Royal Society of Sculptors membership has to be the blossoming of contacts amongst our members. It became clear that the pandemic had reached even into the furthest corners of the globe and we had that in common besides being sculptors. I stuck pins into a map and found participants from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Ecuador and Hong Kong via Ukraine and many European countries.

Meanwhile, the UK based RSS sculptors who were bonding in various regional groups started to arrange exhibitions. Logistical hurdles made that more difficult for the international cohort, but we too had bonded and wanted to put our work together. Then ROSL provided us with the opportunity we had been waiting for. Size restrictions were in place, but none to the scope and imagination of the work. It will be a show that unifies the human spirit as well as expanding it”.
