About This Event

Smithfield was the stage for some of the most defining moments from the eleventh century onwards. Throughout the walk, discover sites linked to the devastating impact of the Black Death, the ruins of influential monastic institutions, the final stronghold of the Peasants’ Revolt, and the grim locations where Reformation-era heretics faced persecution.

The route also includes London’s oldest and most significant Norman church alongside two historic museums, each offering invaluable perspectives on life in medieval London.

Though the area has transformed over the centuries, Smithfield continues to reveal remarkable historic landmarks, preserving the essence of a bygone era.

The walk begins at Pret A Manger, 1 Long Ln, Barbican, London, EC1A 9HA at 1.30pm and finishes at Farringdon station at 3.30pm.

We advise that all attendees arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour.

For any enquiries on the day of the walk, please contact Mr Tim Potter on +44(0)7846899156.
