Spaceshifting

18 July 2025

11th July – 14th September 2025

ROSL is delighted to present Spaceshifting, our second exhibition celebrating international members of the Royal Society of Sculptors. Spaceshifting is an ambitious and inventive play on traditional exhibition-making, that seeks to subvert the difficulties of international programming and strengthen cultural relationships across borders. The theme encourages the artists to consider how works can move and metamorphose through space, across borders. Playing with dimensions, space, and material, the proposal seeks to challenge how an artwork can shift through space and time, physically changing from its inception to its display. Whilst the theme is left conceptually open to interpretation, the works on display connect through a mriyad of foundations including metamorphosis, migration, materiality and speculative futures.

“The International cohort of the RSS started to meet weekly on zoom during the first months of the pandemic in 2020. We got to know each other by sharing our stories, practices, successes and failures. The ever-changing tides of geopolitics and its subsequent consequences that some of us experience are discussed, but mostly our main interest: making sculpture. We are cultural witnesses and from these connections, we learn so much. This is now the second opportunity for our international sculptors to exhibit together in the splendid space of the ROSL headquarters. It was a great success last year, and these new works are just as exciting and inspiring. This exhibition reflects our very varied experiences of being artists from across the world. I would like to extend huge thanks to ROSL for generously giving the RSS this very special and precious opportunity”.
