We are delighted to present the London History Series, a captivating journey through 2000 years of London’s evolution, exclusively for ROSL members and their guests. Over the coming months, Tim Potter, esteemed guide and author of two acclaimed books on London, will lead a series of six illustrated talks that explore the city’s dynamic past.

Starting with an exploration of London’s Roman origins, Tim will trace the city’s growth through the late medieval period, including its dramatic transformation following the Great Fire. Subsequent sessions will illuminate London’s Georgian expansion, its rise to global prominence in the nineteenth century, and the profound changes of the twentieth century.

About Rebuilding of London Post-Fire (1666)

Tim Potter, our regular guest speaker and TV presenter, will explore the lasting impact of the Great Fire of 1666 on London’s history in our upcoming talk, part of the London History Series. The Fire devastated much of the City, and in its aftermath, London transformed into a modern metropolis. It marked a turning point between the old and the new, as the city expanded beyond its historic limits, with the wealthy moving westward.

As London’s growth accelerated, its architecture shifted away from the charm of Tudor design, embracing a more rational and scientific approach. London evolved from a provincial capital into one of Europe’s most significant cities, with its future growth firmly assured.
